The days of running a simple newspaper ad and booking clients has come and gone. Today it’s all about the internet and for some “old school” guys that’s a tough pill to swallow. The internet has created the “I want it now” consumer and if you don’t have your ducks in a row to move quickly then the next guy who does is going to get your clients. Which brings me to the first and obvious tip: Be available all the time!

Making yourself available via phone, chat, email, text, Facebook and responding quickly is the name of the game. While some of you may have a ton of repeat clients who are drop dead loyal to you there are still plenty of start-up waterfowl guides and even established outfitters who would like to have a fuller appointment book come duck season. Each one of these clients has spent good money with you and having each of them on a mailing list is worth BIG money. For example, let’s say you have a full week open in December with no hunts booked and you want to keep your guides busy. You have a list of 100-300 paying customers you can send an email to at the click of a button and I’ll bet you my left arm you book at least 2-3 guys for that week. With the autoresponder services above you write one email and it sends it to everyone at the same time making it very easy to drum up business within the hour.

Internet advertising. If you want more clients and you’re not advertising online then you’re losing clients to everyone else who is. There are several ways to effectively spend money online to get a steady stream of waterfowl hunters calling you to book hunts and while you may have had bad experiences in the past, it does work!
